This course is designed to help employees understand how to work safely and protect themselves, and others, from harm.
By law, basic knowledge of health & safety is essential for all employees in all industries. The course provides an introduction to all of the essential health and safety topics, appropriate for all workplaces, and ensures that workers have sufficient knowledge to prevent accidents and manage risks effectively. It is ideal to provide employees with the requisite knowledge or refresher training.
Do You Comply With the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
Under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers have a duty to provide training for their employees to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, their health and safety at work.
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 identify situations where health and safety training is particularly important, including:
- Training for new recruits
- Training for when people change jobs or take on extra responsibilities
- Training for young, more vulnerable employees
- Refresher training where existing skills need updating
The Health and Safety (Training for Employment) Regulations 1990 also state that learners doing work experience must be covered by health and safety law and so will also require training.
This course ensures that you comply with these laws by providing an adequate level of information suitable for all employees.
A minimum of 7 hours instruction over 1 day.
All staff who have not received formal training in Health and Safety. Suitable for anyone in a work environment. There are no pre-requisites and it is suitable for workers of all levels.
HSE guidance states that everyone who works for you and who could be harmed needs to know how to work safely and without risks to health. This applies to all industries of work.
If you are a manager or supervisor, continuing on to the Level 3 Health and Safety course would be more appropriate.

The course includes lectures for a minimum of 7 hours enhanced by audio/visual material and practical teaching aids.
Delegates are encouraged to actively participate in discussions and group activities. Some activities will require practical participation.
The course culminates with a short examination which comprises of 30 multiple choice questions.
Successful candidates receive a Level 2 certificate from the Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance. This can be used to provide evidence for compliance and audit.
The next qualification after this course is the Level 3 Award in Supervising Health & Safety in the Workplace Course.
