Who should attend?

The APLH course is aimed at managers, assistant managers and supervisors or staff seeking promotion to one of these positions.

Anyone working in a job role that requires them to authorise retail sales of alcohol in England and Wales must complete the APLH course in order to apply for their personal licence.

Course content

This one-day course includes lectures enhanced by video and written materials. Delegates are encouraged to actively participate in discussion sessions and group activities.

Delegates are also provided with the course book prior to attending the course and are encouraged to read and complete the contained exercises. This ensures that delegates are better prepared for the course

The APLH training course will provide each delegate with a clear understanding of the framework of law and regulation that underpins the responsibilities of the personal licence holder. This will include:

  • Licensing authorities
  • Personal and Premises licences
  • Operating schedules
  • Permitted temporary activities
  • Unauthorised licensable activities
  • Police powers and rights of entry
  • Legal and social responsibilities of the personal licence holder
  • Illegal drugs, the effects of alcohol and disorderly conduct
  • Protection of children

Course structure

The course includes lectures enhanced by audio/visual material and practical teaching aids. Delegates are encouraged to actively participate in discussions and group activities.

Duration

A minimum of 6 hours instruction over 1 day.

Assessment

A multiple-choice question examination immediately follows the APLH training course.

Certification

Successful candidates will receive a certificate from the Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance.
