Welcome to this week’s News Bites, where we’re looking ahead to April 12th and putting a barbeque spin on our Easter weekend! Enjoy.
UK makes room for outdoor dining!
Birmingham, Manchester and London are all preparing for temporary road closures and pavement widening to help restaurants, bars and pubs boost their bookings from the 12th April. Covent Garden will soon transform into a giant outdoor dining hub this month, whilst the Duke of York Square in Chelsea will be adding 500 additional seats for a summer of dining, drinking and entertainment.
Easter inspiration from the UK’s best chefs
Some of Britain’s finest chefs have shared their take on an Easter themed at-home dining menu for Good Friday right through to Easter Monday. From Rick Stein’s DIY Easter Feast Kit featuring Dover Sole Meunière, to barbecue lamb shoulder with charred hispi cabbage from grill master David Carter, Chef and founder of Smokestak. If you didn’t get your order in on time, fear not as they’ve released the recipes online, including Skye Gyngell’s simnel cake. Delicious!
Alfresco eating goes up a notch
In just 11 days restaurants and hotels up and down the country will be opening their exciting new outdoor spaces and quirky alfresco pop-ups. For the first time, The Dorchester Hotel will be making use of its rooftop for a summer of entertainment and informal French dining. Around the corner The Berkeley is taking inspiration from Padstow and Whitstable, with five rainbow coloured beach huts offering menu items including crab on sourdough, baked scallops and soft serve ice cream with all the toppings.
Missing airplane food? British Airways have it covered
With so many flights grounded due to the pandemic, British Airways is making it possible for you to cook and eat your own in flight meal at home, with their new First Class meal kit. With help from catering partner DO & CO and delivery company Feast Box, the at-home menu features dishes normally served at 38,000 feet, including Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon and slow-cooked British beef cheeks. It also comes with a selection of British cheeses. We wouldn’t expect anything less!
